Sexual abuse is common, more common than you think. Recent research shows that one half of women have been sexually abused or assaulted. Why do people not understand that this number is so high? Because people who have been abused or assaulted don’t talk about it. They don’t say anything because they are scared they won’t be believed, and sadly this is sometimes true. The #MeToo movement started to highlight how pervasive the problem is, and we need to continue to raise out voices. Survivors must be heard, supported, and believed.
