I don’t know of any 12-step groups for sugar addiction, but I wish I did.  My name is Linnea and I am a sugar-aholic.  I’m not making fun of addiction, just the opposite.  I’m quite serious.  Research shows that sugar is 8 times more addictive than cocaine or heroin.  It’s toxic and will ruin both your health and your mood.

Growing up, sugary foods were a treat.  In particular the ice cream cones on the way home from town.  I learned that I could reward and sooth myself with sweets.  Now, decades later, I find that I am hypersensitive to any carbohydrate (bread, cake, candy…).  They cause me to feel sluggish, grumpy, sleepy and overall lousy.  There’s a great documentary that I recently watched called Fed Up.  I highly recommend it.  I won’t attempt to summarize it here, but suffice to say, sugar is TOXIC!!!

If you’re feeling depressed, take a look at your diet.  It’s not easy to cut out the sugar, but your mood will improve.  Research shows that other supplements like Vit D, Fish Oil and Vit B can also help with depression.  If you are looking for alternative ways to cope with depression look into it and see if that might help you.  I’m not saying that this is a replacement for medication for severe depression, just that it might give you a boost.

I have cut out sugar, bread and other simple carbs, and even artificial sweetener (it tricks your body into thinking it’s getting sugar) and I have more energy, get more done and feel better all the way around.  It helped me, perhaps it can help you.
